This week on Mythopoetics<\/em>, Nandi Rose of Half Waif folds out shimmering synthpop under clear blue skies. Catching the light which reflects from shallow pools and bends through glass houses, buoyant in a way which conquers while acceding to the swirling hands of fate, the record blends eighties power ballads with the spirit of new age. As Dolphin Midwives, the harpist Sage Fisher partners with the producer Tucker Martine for more submerged abstractions. And the Welsh producer Lewis Roberts marks his full-length debut as Koreless, offering a ruinous take on contemporary classical or aerating the dank atmospheres of the club.<\/p>\n

Molly Herron composes for an ensemble of violas da gamba, Tkay Maidza enjoys the splendours of Eden, and Courtney Barnett paints street scenes with a deft hand and coarse brush. The Tuareg band Les Filles de Illighadad bring choral chants and tende percussion to Pioneer Works in New York City, while kindred spirits Sufjan Stevens and Angelo De Augustine hunker down in an upstate cabin to seek inspiration from popular films. New albums come from the Santiago producer Imaabs, the Maryland rapper IDK, and North Long Beach’s own Vince Staples, with Big Mali, Haviah Mighty, Peggy Gou, Ann Margaret Hogan, and Lee Gamble rounding out the best of the week.<\/p>\n
