In\u00a0two sessions, on Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, I\u00a0stood out by York’s Millennium Bridge and watched and waited patiently and attempted to catch on camera the Perseids<\/a>. The Millennium Bridge is illuminated come nightfall with lights of shifting colours, but the lights go out around midnight;\u00a0and despite the pattern of these lights throughout the earlier session, and the constant yellow of the streetlamps, the Perseids came in frequent clusters and were easy to spot.<\/p>\n

Less easy, however, to capture. I managed to photograph\u00a0one meteor, whose trail takes it agonisingly out of shot. Here are twelve pictures of the night and the night’s sky.<\/p>\n
