Then on to the 45th anniversary edition of The Velvet Underground\u2019s <em>Loaded<\/em>; an apparent baseball mishap at Tropicana Field; an exhibition in Verona by the artist Jacob Hashimoto; and finally some noisy plastic ducks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">* * *<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Bar Room Singers: The Weeknd, Majical Cloudz, and <em>Twin Peaks<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The prospect of music beef tantalisingly suggested\u00a0itself this week, scenting\u00a0the nostrils and tingling almost tangible upon the taste buds. And some distance removed from the traditional rap locales, it proposed to set two of Canada\u2019s brightest indie talents against one another, pitting Toronto against Montreal. Alas, it was less than a misunderstanding \u2013 there was nothing to it aside from the grasping of journalists \u2013 but it did provide one of the musical week\u2019s more humorous interludes.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently a couple of years ago a director named Mitch Moore worked briefly on a video with Majical Cloudz which never came to fruition. Owing to creative differences, the project was scrapped. But then last month The Weeknd released his video for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KEI4qSrkPAs\">\u2018Can\u2019t Feel My Face\u2019<\/a>, directed by Grant Singer, with the song the second single from The Weeknd\u2019s just-released sophomore studio album <i>Beauty Behind the Madness<\/i>\u00a0\u2013 and Mitch Moore was advised to take note. He spotted some similarities between his work on the aborted Majical Cloudz video and the completed video for \u2018Can\u2019t Feel My Face\u2019, and asserting that he sent edits of his video out around the time to colleagues for feedback,\u00a0he took to Instagram to suggest a degree of appropriation. This month the audio for one of the album\u2019s twelve tracks was released, the beautiful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5-AWP6q26F4\">\u2018Silver Car Crash\u2019<\/a>. Devon took the opportunity presented by the Weeknd scandal to reveal that a video for \u2018Silver Car Crash\u2019 is imminent.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/majicalcloudz\/status\/636240194950307840<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/majicalcloudz\/status\/636240357517303808<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/majicalcloudz\/status\/636240542431641600<\/p>\n<p>Aside from Devon\u2019s lighthearted series of tweets\u00a0\u2013 and even if there is a marked correspondence in terms of mise-en-sc\u00e8ne and cutting across a portion of Moore and Singer\u2019s videos \u2013 the very fact that Majical Cloudz had to defuse a situation, and the highly generic concept behind both videos, were equal causes for amusement. Both videos show singers standing at the forefront of stages\u00a0with their microphones, ahead of plush backdrops, in bars with careful lighting.<\/p>\n<p>The scenario may recall any number of music videos, films, or television shows, but I was reminded of the scenes inside the Roadhouse at the end of the pivotal fourteenth episode of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/culturedarm.com\/staging\/5793\/twin-peaks-major-briggs-vision\/\">Twin Peaks<\/a><\/em>, otherwise known as \u2018Lonely Souls\u2019. With FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, Sheriff Harry S. These have arrived in deluxe packages with up to six CD\u2019s worth of material, comprising remastered original recordings, alternate\u00a0full-album mixes, alternate song takes, and live performances.<\/p>\n<p>This year it is the turn of <em>Loaded<\/em>. The first two discs of the anniversary edition will contain the studio and mono versions of the album, along with assorted outtakes. The third will feature early versions and alternate mixes of songs recorded during the <em>Loaded<\/em> sessions. The fourth is a remastered edit of the 1972 release <em>Live at Max\u2019s Kansas City<\/em>, which captured back on 23 August 1970 in New York what was effectively the group\u2019s final show.<\/p>\n<p>The fifth disc offers a hitherto unreleased recording of a live show which took place earlier in the year, on 9 May in Philadelphia. <em>Live At Second Fret, Philadelphia, 1970<\/em>, will boast eleven songs, with the band on the night a three-piece, Lou Reed, Sterling Morrison, and Doug Yule performing in the absence of Moe Tucker, who missed out on recording\u00a0the vast majority of <em>Loaded<\/em> as she was pregnant at the time with her first child.<\/p>\n<p>The sixth and final disc is an audio DVD incorporating three different high-resolution mixes of <em>Loaded<\/em>. Apparently these mixes have been re-sequenced, to demonstrate an originally planned segue between \u2018I Found a Reason\u2019 and \u2018Head Held High\u2019.\u00a0<em>Loaded: Re-Loaded 45th Anniversary Edition<\/em> will be out on 30 October.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">* * *<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Kevin Kiermaier\u2019s Vain Climb<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following GIF appears to show Tampa Bay Rays centre Kevin Kiermaier grossly misjudging the flight of the baseball off the bat of Kendrys Morales of the Kansas City Royals, during the game between the two sides at Tropicana Field on Friday night.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"imgur-embed-pub\" lang=\"en\" data-id=\"ao2zPfO\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/imgur.com\/ao2zPfO\">The catch of the century that never was<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/s.imgur.com\/min\/embed.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In fact Tropicana Field is notorious for four catwalks that hang from the stadium\u2019s dome low over the outfield. The catwalks are lettered A to D. If A or B are struck, the ball drops into the outfield and can be caught or otherwise counts as a hit. But if C or D are struck, then the ball is ruled a home run. In this case, Morales actually achieved a two-run home run off the catwalk; while\u00a0Kiermaier has to settle for being much less ludicrous that I and others initially presumed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">* * *<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Jacob Hashimoto \u2018Never Comes Tomorrow\u2019 at\u00a0Studio La Citt\u00e0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since viewing an installation in bamboo and silk, titled\u00a0\u2018Superabundant Atmosphere\u2019,\u00a0by Jacob Hashimoto at\u00a0Ume\u00e5\u2019s Bildmuseet a few years ago, I have loosely followed the New York-based artist\u2019s work. At the moment\u00a0Studio La Citt\u00e0 in Verona is showing \u2018Never Comes Tomorrow\u2019, a solo exhibition featuring some of Hashimoto\u2019s best-known wall pieces alongside new site-specific installations.
