Tracks of the Week 01.02.20

Lil Wayne is back with an ellipsis rather than a period, figuring rebirth and surveying the commercial scene on the free-form and experimental Funeral. JFDR, Dua Lipa, Caribou, The Men, and Hayley Williams cast the die on their upcoming albums New Dreams, Future Nostalgia, Suddenly, Mercy, and Petals for Armor. Alongside acclaimed musicians including the saxophonist Stephen Riley, trumpeter Riley Mulherkar, pianist Chris Pattishall, and vocalist CƩcile McLorin Salvant, who have collaborated before under the direction of Wynton Marsalis, the composer and guitarist Rafiq Bhatia offers an oblique and atmospheric take on some iconic jazz standards. And there is plenty of stellar music besides from Salt Cathedral, Chrystabell, A$AP Ferg, Elley DuhƩ, Rylo Rodriguez, Zebra Katz, and Son Little, while Gorillaz open up their studio to showcase slowthai, Slaves, and a new way of working.
