A fallow spell for new music as the world takes stock and takes breath over New Year, the week still saw releases from the Detroit rapper Sada Baby, Alabama’s NoCap and his sometime collaborator Backend Foreign, and the idiosyncratic New York veteran billy woods. The San Francisco-based underground funk icon Prophet continues his quiet resurgence ahead of the release of his upcoming album Don’t Forget It, 1989 – out on the fledgeling label WMTY – share music from their Chip Meditation EP, from Pang Caroline Polachek tries to ascertain the new normal, and out of a golden trance ZOMBIE-CHANG revels in the brisk morning haze.
