Locked down in their East Harlem apartment, self-recording their performances from their living room with the aid of just a single microphone, on Force Majeure the bassist Dezron Douglas and harpist Brandee Younger offer an uplifting take on an idiosyncratic American songbook, as soulful renditions of jazz standouts by Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders alternate between intimate covers of The Stylistics and Kate Bush. Seasonal tidings come courtesy of Glüme and 100 gecs, while Shakira gets a workout with the Black Eyed Peas.
