The Indiana producer Jlin stays busy with a fiery admixture of IDM and Detroit techno, while Raja Kirik fuse digital noise and Dutch hardstyle with traditional Indonesian percussion in a shamanic ode to centuries of Javanese struggle.
The Bill Charlap Trio return to Blue Note, finding ample space amid the interpretation of jazz classics by Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, and Kenny Burrell for some musical theatre courtesy of Frank Loesser’s Guys and Dolls. Combo Chimbita play off Haitian influences and the free jazz of Sun Ra, as the acclaimed Puerto Rican queer artist Edrimael Delgado Reyes performs an interpretive dance for their latest storytelling single.
